A fracture is a break in the continuity of a bone. High force impact or stress are the key contributors to bone fractures. Fractures can, however, also be caused by medical problems that weaken bone tissue. They include conditions like cancer and osteoporosis. They are known as pathological fractures in medical terminology. A complete or partial break in the continuity of bone tissue is known as a bone fracture. While being unyielding, bones can flex or give somewhat in response to an external stimulus. Bones, however, will break if the force is too severe, much like a plastic ruler will if it is overtwisted. The force that broke the bone is frequently used to estimate the severity of a fracture. The bone may just fracture rather than completely break if the breaking threshold has only been slightly surpassed. The bone may fracture when subjected to extraordinarily strong pressures, such as those brought on by a vehicle collision or gunshot. An open fracture occurs when a bone breaks in a way that causes bone fragments to protrude through the skin or when a wound extends to the shattered bone.
