Hallux Valgus

Bunion is the bony prominence at base of your great toe as shown in the image.

It can be very disabling if the angle of deformity is high and can cause pain. In long run this can lead to osteoarthritis of the first metatarsophalyngeal joint of foot.

Causes can be many but in majority the cause is unknown. Wearing narrow toebox shoes is considered to be one of the cause.

Condition can be managed by splints if the angle is less and patient is in growing age.

In older patients and in higher degree of deformity surgical correction is to be considered.
